General Description
This FPGA-based prototyping platform was developed in-house by
Wipro-NewLogic to provide a platform for development and system
validation. The BOOST™
Core is embedded on the Xilinx FPGA. The
board
can be used by Wipro-NewLogic customers to develop hardware or software
modules to complement the BOOST™
Core or the BOOST™
Software. Connections are available on the
board to connect to a logic analyser or other extension boards. More
than 50% are available on the FPGA for additional use. A USB and serial
ports are available for HCI interface or other purpose.
The BOOST™
Board, with the BOOST™
Core, BOOST™
Software, and Wipro-NewLogic Development application
(NLDev), can be considered as a fully functional Bluetooth
system.
With the BOOST™
Board a user who wishes to customize the
BOOST™
Core to their needs, can always reprogram the FPGA with their updated
code. This can then be run and tested using the JTAG interface.
Radio Interface
As BOOST™
Core users are not tied to using one specific
Bluetooth
radio, then different radios can be used with the BOOST™
Board depending on the customers requirements. Multiple physical radio
interfaces are available on the board so that radios from different
vendors can be "plugged-in". The BOOST™
Board
is provided by default with the Wipro-NewLogic BOOST™
RF
test chip. Other
BT 2.0/2.1+EDR RF can be connected on request.
NLDev user interface
Wipro-NewLogic has created a development application (NLDev) for the
hosted model, which sits on top of the protocol stack, and runs on any
Windows PC. Using this Visual Basic generated interface, the user can
manipulate the BOOST™
Core and BOOST™
RF
on the board and the BOOST™
Software
stack to perform all of the functions defined for a fully functional
Bluetooth
device. This is also provided with the BOOST™
Board.
Fully Embedded BOOST™ Board
As all the BOOST™ Baseband core, Software stack, and API are all on the
board there is no need to run this from NLDev on a PC. For the fully
embedded model, the manipulation can be done via the keypad & LCD
screen on the BOOST™ Board.
