HANA (High-Definition Audio-Video Network Alliance) is the first cross-industry alliance to develop and promote the end-to-end requirements of connected, high definition, home entertainment products and services. The objective of HANA is to provide simple networking and product interfacing built on the quality-of-service and optimal A/V delivery capabilities and discovery mechanism (plug-and-play) of IEEE 1394.

The three major founders and promoters of HANA are Samsung, Mitsubishi and JVC with many other leading Consumer Electronic companies joining the alliance.

HANA recommends IEEE1394 for networking AV Products and uses CEA-2027, CEA-931B Standards. CEA-2027 standard allows use of HTML for building GUI for the 1394 AV productions. The AV device acts as a Web Server and declares its capabilities and implements navigation of the controls through HTML pages. This allows available web page design tools to be used for AV Device GUI creation. IP over 1394 is used for transporting these HTML pages over 1394 bus. The Display device uses standard web browser to display the HTML based pages received from the Connected AV Devices. CEA-931B allows universal remote capability by defining AV commands that can be transparently passed across the 1394 network.

Using HANA enabled products; the consumer will see a top-level menu on the DTV that shows all of the devices that are connected. This top-level menu can be defined by the DTV or by a HANA compliant STB, satellite receiver or IPTV STB. Consumers will be able to select any product and control it using either the DTV's remote control or that of the service provider. The choice is left to the consumer. No more switching between multiple remotes. With a simple click on the primary remote control, any connected device will display its own user interface on DTV display.

The complexity of DTV is also reduced as the most of the device centric controls are implemented in the AV devices connected. The DTV need not have the Device specific controller software. All that the DTV implements, is standard Web Browser for simple navigation of the menu Items.

Our offerings include

EIA 775.1/HNCP (Home networking)
EIA 775.1 provides HNCP Client/Manager functionality and assigns non-conflicting IP addresses to the IP capable nodes in the IEEE 1394 network.

IPv4 over 1394 Software
Compliant to RFC 2734 and IEEE 1394a-2000 standard for the IEEE 1394 high performance serial bus

CEA-2027 Software
Compliant to CEA-2027 specification. It provides web-based user interface for managing devices remotely and methods to select a device to control, viewing and controlling the elements in the selected device

CEA-931 Remote Control
Compliant to Remote Control Command Pass through Standard for Home Networking CEA 931B Specification.

Portability

The HANA Software IPs are designed to facilitate easy porting to other processor and operating system (OS) environments. All the OS dependent portions of the stack form a separate module called the Operating System Abstraction Layer. Only this module needs porting when the stack has to migrate to a different environment

The IPs provide well defined interfaces to the underlying 1394 driver so that they can be integrated with a third party's 1394 Driver Stack.
